#1 - About our project's development

About our Project
Misfit Heroes is a game looking to emulate a classic tabletop experience on computers, where up to four players can collaborate in fights and work to defeat the Dark Lord while playing as characters that aren't conventionally the heroes in the story. We're looking to gear it towards a comedic approach, while still making the gameplay itself strategic/fun.

Character Design Report (Section Written by Tyler Sisley)

  • For our primary party composition, we have decided to include characters that follow the standard RPG roles of one tank, two damage dealers, and one support oriented character.
  • We decided to go for concepts that we had to think outside of the box for, and we tried to avoid the typical knights, wizards and rogues.
  • The character we have designated as our tank is The Bear.
    • Bio: After stumbling upon the Farmer's stash of honey, this friendly bear took a liking to the overwhelmingly sweet taste, and came back for more! In fact, they came back again... and again. Eventually they decided to take an entire tankard for themselves, but don't worry, they absolutely love to share!
    • Class Description: The bear acts as the "Tank" of the party, drawing the attention of enemies and bolstering the defensive capabilities of themselves and their allies.
    • Moveset
      • Attack - Thrash - Swipe at your target using your sharp claws.
      • Skill - Honey Spread - Cover an ally with honey from the tankard on your back, increasing their defense.
      • Secondary “Ultimate” skill: Honey-Sweet Growl - Growl at your foes, drawing their attention for the next X* turns.
  • *Note - Any time X is seen in a description, the value may change according to playtesting and/or balancing decisions.
  • The character we have designated as our primary damage dealer is The Butcher.
    • Bio: A childhood friend of the farmer, who had taken notice of their missing honey problem. One day, the butcher caught a glimpse of the thief! A... bear? Really? (Where have we seen this before...?) Upon confronting the ferocious beast, the Butcher was delighted to find an unlikely friend in the honey-indulging bear, as they shared a common interest in treating themselves to the sweetest honey in the known world.
    • Class Description: The Butcher acts as the primary damage dealer of the party, capable of dealing heavy damage twice in one turn, or even exposing the weakness of a foe with their ultimate ability
    • Moveset
      • Attack - Chop Chop! - Slash at a foe twice in quick succession.
      • Skill - Cleave-r - Swing your cleaver in a wide arc in front of you, dealing damage to all enemies.
      • Secondary “Ultimate” skill - Meathook - Send forth a hook to expose the weakness of a chosen target. (Stuns and lowers the defense of a chosen foe.)
  • The character we have designated as our secondary damage dealer is The Farmer.
    • Bio: Fruit? Veggies? Perhaps... honey? The Farmer's got it all when it comes to all you can eat! The Farmer has close ties to the Butcher, having known them since childhood. Having lived a peaceful life up until now, the growing threat of the dark lord's influence has forced their hand in defending their land, taking up their trusty scythe and forming a band of would-be heroes.
    • Class Description: The farmer acts as the secondary damage dealer of the party. While managing to deal moderate damage compared to the butcher, they can also inflict a useful status condition unto foes, and even provide the party with beneficial status effects!
    • Moveset
      • Attack: Harvest - Swing your scythe at a target, dealing moderate damage.
      • Skill: Veggie bomb - Toss a rotten tomato at a target, lowering it's agility.
      • Secondary “Ultimate” skill: Grand Feast - Offer up your harvest for your allies, increasing the agility of your entire party.
  • The character we have designated as our support is The Alchemist.
    • Bio: Potions, potions... and more... potions...? Meet The Alchemist. Just about the only person capable of keeping this band of misfits alive. A former wandering potion-maker of nomadic origin who settled down after years of traveling, seeking to settle down for a peaceful life. Not long after finding a place to set up shop, they met the farmer, and forged a friendship after seeking use of their honey supply for use in their grand concoctions.
    • Class Description: The Alchemist plays an important role of supporting the party and keeping them alive in face of danger. Capable of mixing potions to fit the need of any battle, they may heal their allies and inflict poisonous effects onto their foes.
    • Moveset
      • Attack: Toxic Flask - Toss a flask of a failed brew at your target, dealing a low amount of damage and causing the target to take additional damage for X turn(s) / Lowering the target's defense
      • Skill: Healing Brew - Toss a flask of healing brew at an ally, healing them for X.
      • Secondary “Ultimate” skill: Energy Drink - Mix a mysterious herb into your healing brew, causing it to heal an ally for X and cause your target to gain an additional attack on their next turn.
